Every collegiate program should take a page out of Mitch Barnhart’s book on how to hire a coach. Wins and losses are most definitely important. Integrity, morals, professionalism, and candor should be as well. A perfect example of this is UK Baseball Coach Nick Mingione.
If you haven’t heard Coach Mingione’s Motivational Monday’s on KSR then your life is incomplete. With great analogies such as “be a fountain not a drain”, its easy to see what kind of man is leading our baseball team. He is always a professional, on and off the field. He is a man of God and isn’t afraid to talk about it. He’s a motivator at heart, he pushes his players to be better athletes but also better men. You can sense he really cares about the players he coaches. Its more than just baseball.
With all of that Mingione still manages to produce on the field. In the 2018 MLB Draft, UK lead the nation with 13 players drafted. Coach won SEC Coach of the Year in 2017. As a Head Coach, Mingione has a record of 77-45.
Even with being snubbed out of post season play this year, UK baseball is relevant again. We have a very exciting future and need to support our elite coach.
