For the first time since 2007, the Wildcats will be playing as a ranked team this Saturday. The Wildcats are coming off a 4-0 start to the season with quality wins over Florida and Mississippi State. The Gamecocks are 2-1 with blowout wins against Vandy and Coastal. Their only loss is to a very good Georgia team. They had a game scheduled against Marshall but it was cancelled due to Hurricane Florence.
Kentucky’s wins are not flukes. They have been the better team in all four games this year. If they struggle Saturday its going to be because they are too relaxed and think their talents will carry them. Coach Stoops seemed to be concerned a little with that in his press conference on Tuesday. I think Coach will get that reigned in and the team will be ready for battle again Saturday.
South Carolina opened as the 1 point favorite. That has shifted quickly to Kentucky being favorite by 2. I am happy they opened as the favorite. This team thrives off bulletin board material and Vegas delivered it for us this week.
I am convinced that no team is going to be able to shut down our run game. Benny Snell has already racked up 540 yards for the season, Terry Wilson has 241 yards, and Asim Rose had 193. If we maintain our average yards per rush of 6.2, we will have no issue Saturday.
With the Gamecocks our biggest worry has to be their quarterback Jake Bentley. He is averaging 268 yards per game in the air and has 6 touchdowns. With the way our defense has played, I don’t think he will get over 200 yards. I also think he will add a pick to his stats Saturday with the 3 he already has.
I think we will win the game Saturday with our defense again. Josh Allen will keep the pressure on the offense and we will see our guys working short fields again. I think Benny will get his usual 150 yards and Terry Wilson will be able to get the ball down the field. I predict a 35-10 victory for the Wildcats!
