RECAP: Breaking down the win over South Carolina

We won. We are 5-0. We are 3-0 in the SEC. Nothing else matters but here is the breakdown anyway.

Offensively we played pretty well in the first half. All 24 points came in the first half, 21 of those coming in the second quarter alone. Terry Wilson played better than his numbers show. He completed 13/20 passes with 132 yards. He also added 59 rushing yards. Wilson had a rushing TD and a INT that shouldn’t really count. His interception was on a 3rd and 40 and he threw up a hail mary that put us in better position defensively than had we punted. He was the better quarterback on the field tonight. He had a lot of success with short passes and getting the first down.

Benny Snell Jr. was his normal self in the first half. The second half he was much more contained. He still managed to get 99 yards but only averaged 3.5 yards per carry. He was averaging over 5.5 yards per carry coming into the game.

Overall it was good to see that we could run a more balance offense and still score 24 points.

Defensively we are a nightmare for teams. We held Jake Bently to 13/28 pass attempts with 148 yards. South Carolina’s leading rusher only had 44 yards. We forced 4 turnovers. West, Edwards, and Baity each had an interception. Jordan Jones recovered a fumble. Josh Allen is just a beast. He had 8 total tackles, 3 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, and 1 QB hurry. It seemed like he made the QB hurry every pass rush but I don’t get to decided the stats.

The MVP should be the fans. 63,081 of you guys filled up Kroger Field. South Carolina was 5-15 on 3rd down and it was because the fans were insanely loud every 3rd down play. I would put our football fan base up against Alabama’s right now.

Let’s enjoy this win! We will start previewing Texas A&M on Monday.
